These instructions are a complete step by step guide that will show you how to build a vise-mounted router-table with integrated dust collection.

This project is designed to be an EASY build – no crazy joinery.

About the plans:

  • Formatted for normal sized (8.5″ x 11″) printer paper, so you can print them at home.
  • Includes Imperial (U.S.) version AND Metric version!
  • They also include:
    • A complete shopping list for the materials you need.
    • A complete list of parts you need to cut with all the dimensions necessary (with images).
    • Step by step instructions that accompany and compliment the build video.

About this Router Table:

  • Dimensions: 12.5″ x 14″ x  4″ tall, when the fence is all the way in storage position.
  • Dimensions (metric): 32cm x 35cm x  10cm tall, when the fence is all the way in storage position.
  • Designed to use high quality Baltic Birch plywood for durability and strength.

Tools required (or at least strongly suggested) to build this project:

  • Table Saw
  • Miter Saw (Not necessary if you have a table saw sled or another way to make good cross cuts)
  • Either a bandsaw, jigsaw, or coping saw.
  • 23 Gauge Pin Nailer (Recommended, but not strictly necessary, you could use other fasteners)
  • Drill (and/or a Drill Press, preferably) with the following bits: 5/16″, 3/8″, 1/2″ forstner, 1/2″ brad-point, 5/8″, 7/8″ or 1″ forstner, and pilot & counter sink bits for #8 wood screws
  • For metric version, you’ll need these bits: 8mm, 9.5mm, 13mm forstner, 13mm brad-point, 22mm or 25mm forstner, and pilot & countersink bits for 4 x 25mm countersunk wood screws.
  • Sander/Sandpaper/File
  • Flat file

I am a TOTAL NOVICE. But the pattern and the video were both great. Tommy made it look so easy! And though it took me a lot longer (and some of my cuts were wonky) I did it! Thanks, Tommy!

That’s awesome! Good job, and thank you for taking the time to share your review!

From Google Translate: After discovering this video of this milling table I wanted to know more so I went on the site and I ordered the manufacturing plans that I got very very quickly via a download link the plan are very well done my only concern is that I have to translate everything because I do not speak English and in passing a big thank you for your kindness and your valuable video tips very good continuation to you Tommy

      Zanotto,

Thank you for writing that nice review! I’m sorry I don’t have the ability to translate all of my plans – maybe someday I will have the resources to do so. For the meantime, you can use Google Translate to translate any portions you’re having trouble with. It’s not perfect, but hopefully it will help. Thank you again!

      De Google Translate:

      Zanotto,

Merci encore!

Thanks Tommy. Another great video and really useful plans. It worked brilliantly with my router and has been very useful in recent builds. It’s great that you show us how you changed the design and the thinking behind it. It helps us less experienced builders learn some of your design thinking. Thanks again. We really appreciate your work.

Thank you, Steve! I’m glad you’re the projects!

Great plan especially for someone like me who is limited for space. I made this table for myself but altered some of the measurements to suit requirements. Thanks for sharing this with. Keep up the excellent work. Regards Bob Winchester. From the UK

Robert, thank you for that wonderful review!

  5. Matthias (verified owner)

Great, simple build even a woodworking novice like myself can get done. It’s a pleasure working along your very detailed and accurate plans. I’ve learned a lot during the building process, and with that router table, security and efficiency in my hobbyist workshop has really improved a lot, too! This is my second build guided by you. Thank you very much, and keep it up, I’m looking forward to the next projects!

    • Tommy Rich

Matthias, I just saw that you wrote a review for the disc sander as well – thanks again for your support! I’m glad you’re having fun with these projects!

Just getting back into woodworking after a 30 year layoff. Need to do something now that I’m retired and I have to put together a shop on a budget.

I’ve been watching Tommy’s videos for a while and when this one came to my attention I had to take the plunge.

I have not actually built the VMRT yet but the plans and the video are very well done. I only hope that I can come close to what it’s suppose to be. I especially thought the use of the steel rulers well planned.

Tommy, I have seen 5 or 6 of your videos and I like ’em. I like your delivery and your plans seem to be very well thought out.

    Thanks Again,
    Red

    • Tommy Rich

Red, thanks for the awesome review! Keep me posted on your progress!

Easy plan to follow, I’m very happy with results. My vacuum sometimes cant keep up with shavings but that is the shopvac prob. Used it today to try and learn how the different router bits work. Some bit shapes are opposite of what I thougt and the setup of router in this device is so easy.
I left out the rulers, cause the sides of the sled line up with the base, so I felt I didn’t need. If I ever get to be a router king, I will add them. I did buy them from HF. Love it thanks again. I will buy some more plans from you.

    • Tommy Rich

Reed, I’m glad to hear that you’re happy with how it turned out – thank you for awesome review!

  8. Erik Jaesler (verified owner)

So far, so good! Like you did initally, Tommy, I’ve just built the very simple version and it’s served it’s purpose well — doing round-overs on a tiller I’m making for my stepson. I’m looking forward to fabricating the fence and dust collection (which amounts to “advanced work” for this newbie!). Plans are clear and easy to follow, though the first paragraph on page 3 was a bit confusing — I don’t see what operation gives me “5 pieces, 3 that are the same size and 2 smaller ones”. But mostly I’m having a great time building the table and working with it and, for me, that’s most important part!

Thanks, Tommy, and keep the great videos coming!

    • Tommy Rich

Eric, thank you for the awesome review! I’ll have a look at the plans and see if the paragraph can be improved. Thank you again!

  9. Richard Alexander (verified owner)

I enjoyed making this project. The plans were well thought out and easy to follow. I don’t have a lot of room for big items, and since I seldom use a router table this was perfect.

  10. Steve (verified owner)

I am VERY new to woodworking of any type. I managed to do this from the video and the plans. It’s not “perfect” but it’s functional and I am really happy with it. Plans are very well laid out,.. step by step. I highly recommend 1 min workbench.

    • Tommy Rich

Steve, I’m glad to hear that you’re happy with the router table! Thanks for taking the time to write your review!
